Why Split Systems Leak Water

A slow leak causes icing, and the melt looks exactly like a drain problem.

What You Can Safely Check

You do not need tools for the first checks. Turn the system off at the wall first, because water and live electrics do not mix.

Check the filter. If it is grey and matted, that alone can cause icing and drips.
Look at the outdoor unit's drain end. A steady drip there is normal; nothing at all while the indoor unit pours is telling.
Wipe up standing water and keep it off skirting boards while you wait for a tech.

Anything past the filter is our job. Opening a unit, clearing a line properly or handling refrigerant needs a licensed tech, and guessing usually turns a small job into a bigger one.
