Air Conditioner Not Turning On in Woodcroft

You press the button and nothing happens. No hum, no lights, no fan. An air conditioner not turning on is one of the most common calls we get in Woodcroft, and the fix is often smaller than you fear.

Woodcroft is our home turf, so we can get a licensed tech out quickly, where availability allows.

Why Your Aircon Will Not Turn On

A dead unit usually traces back to power, controls or a failed part, in that order of cost. Here are the usual suspects, cheapest first:

Flat controller batteries

The wall remote is dead, not the system. Ten seconds and a coin battery fix it.

A tripped breaker or safety switch

Heatwave load, or another appliance on the same circuit, can trip it without you noticing.

A blown wall outlet or isolator

The outdoor unit's isolator and the indoor unit's outlet both need live power.

A failed capacitor or control board

Common in units fitted through the suburb's 1970s to 1990s build-out, where original systems have been running for decades.

A safety shutdown

The unit has locked out to protect itself, often flashing a code at you.

That last one matters. If the controller is showing a code, do not keep resetting it. Our page on air conditioner error codes explains what those flashes usually mean.

How it works

Simple Checks Before You Call

Two minutes at the switchboard can save you a call-out. Work through these in order:

  1. Step 1: Check the controller batteries

    And swap in fresh ones.

  2. Step 2: Look at the switchboard

For a tripped breaker or safety switch, and reset it once.

  3. Step 3: Test the wall outlet

The indoor unit uses, with a phone charger or lamp.

  4. Step 4: Check the outdoor isolator

Near the compressor is switched on.

If the breaker trips again the moment the unit starts, stop there. A repeat trip means a real electrical fault, and switching it back repeatedly can do damage. That is our cue, not yours.

When a Dead Unit Needs Air Conditioning Repairs

Power and batteries ruled out? Then the fault is inside the unit or its wiring, and that is licensed work. Capacitors, boards and control wiring sit behind live parts, and refrigerant systems are legally off-limits to anyone without the right authorisation.

We carry out air conditioning repairs across Woodcroft every week. Most dead-unit diagnoses are done within the first visit.

What Our Tech Does Onsite

Supply test

We confirm power is reaching both the indoor and outdoor units, then work backwards from there.

Control check

The controller, receiver and board get tested to find where the signal dies.

Component diagnosis

Capacitors, contactors and boards are tested and the failed part named.

Fixed quote

You get the price in writing before we touch anything else.

If the unit is beyond saving, we will say so. Most of Woodcroft is owner-occupied, so the repair-versus-replace call is one you will live with, and we give you the honest numbers for both before you decide.

Cooling Faults We Fix Across Woodcroft

A dead unit is rarely the end of the story. From homes near The Woodcroft Hotel to the streets winding past Tangari Regional Park, we get called out for all sorts.

Units that will not start

But have power, which usually means controls.

Units that run but never cool

Often a choked filter or a slow leak.

Units that start making new noises

Which is a warning worth acting on early.

If yours runs but the room never drops, see our page on an air conditioner not cooling.

Questions

Aircon Questions From Woodcroft Households

Can I fix a dead air conditioner myself?

You can safely check the wall outlet, the circuit breaker and the controller batteries, but anything past that involves live electrical parts and refrigerant, so leave the diagnosis to a licensed tech.

How fast can you get here?

We work across Woodcroft and the southern suburbs daily, and urgent faults get a within-the-hour response where availability allows, so ring us and we will give you an honest arrival window.

Will you quote before doing any work?

Yes, we run on Fixed Upfront Pricing, which means the tech diagnoses the fault first and you get a fixed quote before any repair starts, with no hourly rates and no bill shock.

Is it worth repairing an older unit?

Often yes, but age decides it, and plenty of systems in the suburb's 1970s and 1980s homes are deep into their service life, so we will tell you plainly when replacement is the smarter spend.
